Mike Tyson Admits He Barely Remembers His Fight Against Jake Paul
Last month, boxing legend Mike Tyson made his highly anticipated return to the ring for a showdown against social media star-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Despite the hype surrounding the bout, Tyson's performance appeared far from his prime, with Paul comfortably securing a decision victory. While Tyson had brief flashes of success, he spent much of the fight on the defensive, which left fans questioning whether this return to the ring was truly worth it.
At 58 years old, Tyson’s age was a clear factor in the ring. Now, weeks after the fight, the former heavyweight champion has opened up in a candid interview about how little he remembers from the event.
Tyson Opens Up on Fight Night Memory Loss
Speaking honestly about his experience, Tyson admitted that his recollection of the fight is foggy at best.
“I don’t remember much of the fight,” Tyson revealed. “I kind of blanked out. I haven’t even watched the fight back.”
He continued, offering a specific memory that stood out to him:
“What I do remember is coming back after the first round and seeing Jake do some kind of bow. That’s the last thing I recall clearly.”
Surprisingly, Tyson noted that he didn’t feel the physical toll of the match in the moment.
“I wasn’t tired, I wasn’t sweating much. After the fight, I just went back to the house with my wife and kids, went to the after-party, and then returned home,” he explained.
The day after the fight, however, reality seemed to hit him.
“When I woke up, I told my wife, ‘Why did I even do that?’ I just don’t know what the hell happened,” Tyson said.
What’s Next for Tyson?
In the aftermath of this match, there’s a growing sentiment among fans and boxing pundits alike: Mike Tyson’s fighting days should remain firmly in the past. That opinion doesn’t come from a place of disrespect but rather a realistic understanding of his physical limitations. At nearly 60 years old, it’s unfair to expect Tyson to perform anywhere close to the dominant force he once was.
Nonetheless, the fight itself was a financial success, particularly for the streaming giant Netflix, which reportedly raked in massive viewership numbers. From a business perspective, the spectacle may have been worth it, even if it wasn’t exactly a vintage Tyson performance.
Still, for Tyson’s legacy and overall well-being, most would agree that it’s time for him to leave the gloves behind for good. After all, some memories are best left in the ring.
